The new multiuser VR Colony City is coming!

Yes, we've now released the full multiuser 3DVR Colony City beta!

TrainColony City is a community of online virtual communities where you can build your own virtual houses and interact in the community with others in virtual reality using avatars. This interaction goes far beyond just exploring and chatting with other people. You can become a Citizen of Colony City, take jobs in the community, earn community "money" (community credits) which you can use to increase the desirability and value of your house by "buying" custom furniture in the community VR Mall. You can earn "money" even just by visiting Colony City. Houses can be sold, traded and even rented out to others. In other words there is a whole social and economic structure in Colony City and you can participate in it with other people from all over the world. You can even do this across multiple communities, all with their own special and unique identity.

ApartmentIn future releases Colony City is planning to feature technological advances such as "shared-state" where actions you do with objects are seen simultaneously by people all over the world. So when you move the sofa in your living room, your guests will know where to now sit. You can also give your house a password so that only your friends can visit. The identity established by your avatar - which can be completely customised - will also be also maintained from community to community.

Blocks You will have access to both 2D and 3D houses which will have personal chat and personal message boards where you can post your information. Citizens will be able to create their own customised objects either for their own use or for trade. Citizens will also be able to create - and sell or trade - custom houses or other living abodes as well as custom avatars. Some of the merchants selling "real" goods in the community will give discounts for earned community credits so your credits can go towards purchasing real-world goods and services as well.

Main Town NOTE: To explore our VR worlds in the historical section by yourself all you need is the Live3D plug-in (already included in Netscape 3.01). Since most of these worlds are constructed in VRML 1.0, they look and run best with the Live3D plug-in or Netscape 3.01 (which comes with this plug-in and which is still available). Make sure you download the complete version of Netscape 3.01 with the added components. Netscape 4 comes with the Cosmo plug-in built in and it is not very backwards-compatible and the results with this are very unpredictable - the worlds don't look as good and some don't work properly at all. As mentioned above, we are currently working on a massive project to upgrade all the worlds to VRML 2.0 and introduce a whole new multi-user VR Cybertown with new worlds in a few weeks time.
