Color Landform Atlas of the United States

With a click, you get maps plus direct links to catalog sites (Yahoo, CityNet and the Virtual Tourist). Or you may just want to use the maps (topographic and county versions are here) for your own home page. Either way, this is a cool idea by one of the more innovative web designers around.
National Atlas Information Service

Not only can you find out where cities and towns are, but you get color maps (which load rather quickly). Actually, the maps are the best thing about this place. From satellite images to maps indicating acid rainfall, wetland, and seismicity, this site is a must for geographers. A growing section has "community profiles", which introduce visitors to places like Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, which has nearly 35,000 residents and bounteous wildlife. You can also make a customized map using political, geological, or wildlife boundaries. A great and useful site.
GEOGRAPHY

Geographic Nameserver

"To call this just a geography site isn't fair; hey, geography should always be this fun. Visitors can enter a name (even their own) and seconds later receive a listing of all cities and towns in the United States with that name. For example, ten towns named "Elmer" exist in the U.S., two in Louisiana alone. This simply designed site also generates the county, zip code, area code, and latitude/longitude coordinates for each result, which makes it (would you believe) useful, too."
National Atlas on SchoolNet

Though this "interactive learning about Canada and its communities" seems aimed at kids, adults might also have fun looking up communities in the provinces or testing their knowledge of Canadian geography.
