Cooking

Whatever the millenium we tend to have more activities than time and one thing remains constant: the need to supply ourselves and our loved ones with fast, effective, and nutritious meals.  Whether cooking is a chore or hobby, you can find something useful here. If you love to cook and collect recipes, or just need help planning the evening meal, these resources are for you. Because of the many thousands of cooking and recipe pages on the EarthWeb, we are linking to many "just links" pages in order to give as much information as possible. Some sites have many of the same links, but are still listed because they contain something different or interesting that wasn't found elsewhere.

Soar-Searchable Online Recipes

This is a wonderful site, containing a potpourri of recipes ranging from African to Polish to Russian to Thai, with everything you can imagine in between! It even has recipes for desserts, drinks, & vegetarian dishes, and has a fairly quick loading time. This one is definitely a "must see!"

Epicurious

One of the strongest cooking sites on the web. It was recently named a "Cool Site of the Day" and it was on Netscape's "What's Cool" page. This is "top of the line" and the offerings are fabulous! It offers a complete meal planned out every day with links to the recipes for that meal. I quote from them, "Whether you need a recipe for Chinese almond cakes or want to get from the airport to downtown Shanghai, you've come to the right place. Epicurious Food's Recipe File puts over 6,000 recipes from Bon Appétit and Gourmet at your fingertips alongside wine tips, restaurant and book notes and practical kitchen tips."

Get the best discounts on 200 magazines related to the subject of this page!

Gourmet's Pantry

This sets itself apart in that the site has a lot of information on other things besides recipes. It has a food trivia game where you can win a CD, toasts and quotes and tips. There is also a cookbook for college kids. It is the food-wine com site and must be a part of the eGG site.

Mimi's CyberKitchen

An award winning site on all things food. A stand out with helpful kitchen hints, recipe request line, cookbooks and videos and food humor, in addition to the huge archive of recipes. A user-friendly site, it even lists the food news groups and professionals.

Mamas Links

Excellent quality links offering recipes and more from classical Greek & Roman texts, the Ancient Roman Dishes Archive, Gourmet magazine, and a site called The Art of Mothering.

Pearl's Pantry- Index Page

A "direct mail order pantry for the gourmand"....Wüstof knives, smoked pheasant, buffalo steaks, caviar..... an extensive and varied selection, as well as providing a food glossary and thousands of recipes and links to other food related sites. Attractive.

This is a keeper for meat eaters. Huge resource of recipes for all things beef...... with photos. From Quick Fajitas With Pico De Gallo to Boeuf Wellington. Excellent quality ingredients, notes on preparation times, nutritional data, and .....when's dinner time already!

Twin Peaks Gourmet Trading Post Recipe Archive

Great looking site with excellent quality recipes - superb. Emphasis on Cajun/Creole, but not exclusively. Site also links to their online gourmet store with over two hundred all natural products, a newsletter, and many food sources.

Lots of Bread Recipes

This link has recipes for every kind of bread you can think of! Muffins, bagels, bread, anything to do with yeast, this has it! It's wonderful if you're an avid bread maker and want to try various kinds of tastes. A medium graphics site.

Great Vegetable Recipes

Very nice site...especially wonderful spinach recipes to tempt the non-spinach eaters: Spinach Filled Won Tons, Spinach Ravioli, Spinach & Stilton Pancakes, as well as A Pilgrim's Lentil Pottage, Baked French Fries, and Classic Black Bean Soup.

Recipe Links

This is a purely link site with no reviews, but has some very interesting pages listed such as: 14 ways to enjoy Russian caviar, a cookbook for war, A Moveable Feast Recipes, After-Storm Cooking, American Institute for Cancer Research Online, Axe-Woodsman Bacon-Grease Bear-Paw Cookbook, Children with Diabetes - Food and Diet and Blank's (Nonalcoholic) Drink Recipes. There are many more, but with 1097 sites, this is a site to check out.

Virtual Village Cafe

Some fiery food by Bob, brewery links, internet wine rack and a link to Indian River Gift Fruit Company (who ship anywhere) make this small site worth a quick trip. It may be that you will need to order some holiday baskets soon. A link to the McDonald's site may be fun for the kids, too.

Dorothy Lane Market-Recipes

This is the recipe site that is part of the Dorothy Lane Market. It is a collection of over 250 of their favorite recipes. Many have been developed in-house, others have been contributed. Categories include beef, pork, poultry, soups, salads and dressings, seafood, lamb, beverages, appetizers, side dishes, desserts, vegetables, pasta dishes, sauces, dips and spreads.

Favorite Spanish Recipes

Another small site with Spanish history thrown in for good measure. It has articles about Spanish cuisine and offers them all in Spanish as well as English. Easy as uno dos tres :)

TuBears 20,000 Recipes

This site just moved into a new home and now has 50,000 recipes. There is a fire-breathing bear who I think has just sampled some of the salsa! Impressive site with a wonderful search routine. Ethnic recipes of all types and I am so glad to see one dedicated to those who have allergies and asthma. Gourmet links abound and a very large list of health, nutrition and diet pages. Rated a top cooking site in 1996, I think this one will also make it in 1997. It does with me. A top of the line site!

Good Housekeeping Foods

This site is a winner. It covers so many things besides recipes. Romantic dinners, party menus, 20 min. dinners, good news about "bad foods" and so much more.....what foods will help your moods .....find it here. A special bottle of wine (under $10) or some great slim-down foods, without going without. A must see site! Well, it is Good Housekeeping :)

Flora's Recipe Hideout

Now, this lady knows my weaknesses. Chocolate and cheesecake recipes and loads of them. She has zipped downloads available for many groups (downloads listed at the top of the pages). 900 recipes for chocolate, 200 recipes for cheesecake, 500 for pies and I downloaded them all. This is a great way to build a cookbook. Favorite recipes and low fat recipes are also on the list as well as useful tips. This site shows the power of the internet to get information quickly and ready to print out for use. Since they are already in categories, just print them and put them in a binder.

Recipe and Cooking Links

An excellent site. It has a restaurant guide listing of many sites , many many food company URLs, TV and magazine site listings and even recipe programs listings. A great source for many recipe and food related sites. It is nicely presented in tables. I see a great number of interesting site names here too. I wonder what Cow Town Cafe might have :) and I may can order that Honey Baked ham online!

Appalachian Recipes

Old fashioned cooking for those with little to work with, but lots of love and care. It has only 6 categories: Breads, Candy and Cookies, Desserts, Meats (I'll pass on the Stuffed Possum though), Vegetables and Miscellaneous and each has only one or two recipes, but the main dish is the homegrown wisdom at the end of the pages. Pure Appalachian style :) and I do like fried okra! Fun for the quotes alone. I would like to see more added here as it has a warm and earthy style.

Turkey and Trimmings Recipes

Another area of the Good Housekeeping site, but don't let the title fool you. It has some great listings of trimmings and the focus is on those. Great for new ideas for the holidays and even those other special days. Turkey is not just holiday food anymore.

GH Pasta Cookbook

Native American Foods

Lovely looking site and a charming window on a world. Fascinating lore from numerous nations.... Sioux, Oneida, Lakota, Ojibwqe, Hopi, Pueblo, Zuni, Aztec, Mayans, with historical insights, etymology, nutritional information and good recipes, of course! Pasta Recipes

This link has everything pasta! If you are a pasta lover, this is the link to check out. This site is created by The Pasta Association. An easy load with low graphics.

Kraft Cookbook

Low graphics site. This has menu planners, holiday dishes, and it has a wonderful short questionnaire that would help you find the food you want to serve for yourself or for your family (how much time in preparation you want to spend, what kind of meats, etc.). It has low fat, light foods for those who are on special diets or careful of what they eat, and of course, the recipes have something to do with Kraft products.

Foil Dinner Recipes

The owner of this link cried for help when she needed a recipe for her scout camping trip. When help arrived, she had more than a handful of recipes to share. This site was compiled by various people. It's a neat site to check out if you're taking your scouts camping or maybe to add to that road trip list. Easy to view.

Road Trip Recipes

Getting ready for a road trip? This may be your easy way to get that task done. It only has 10 recipes to share. Very low graphics.

Recipe and Cooking Links

Devoted to various links to other cooking sources. They have a database available of 100+ recipes, and indexes of various cooking tv shows, magazines that have to do with cooking, and many, many more selections. This is a high graphics site.

Cheshire's Recipe Categories

This site claims to have 230,000+ recipes. If you are low bandwidth, turn off the graphics for this.

HomeArts Recipe Finder

It has many criteria to choose from before you finalize the menu (how many calories, how much time in preparation, what kinds of meat, vegetables, etc.). It is heavy on the graphics though.

CookRest Links

Links to various restaurant sites and some recipes from restaurants.

Index of Recipes

This has index (hence the title of the link) of every kind of recipe there is. It has various kinds of recipes for that one kind of entree (ten or more different lasagna recipes). If you want to try something different, this is the place to check out, but it's heavy on the graphics.

Recipe and Food Collection

This is another link list with interesting categories. It has one of my weaknesses covered .. Godiva Chocolates Page, but what caught my attention immediately was a listing of "Recipes, Knitting, Crocheting, Tatting and Scanners" and I am going to wait till I have one of "those days" to go and get a look at this one. I know on those days I need a little side trip to the edge :)

The Kitchen Link

A heavy graphics site and lots of gadgets that could be confusing, but it has selected recipes from SOAR Online; and though it is cluttered with advertisements, it has everything to do with food. I mean, Everything! :)

On the Subject of Cooking

Equipment, canning, discussions and chat, along with recipes of all types, are here. Herbs and spices, recipe software, pet food, yoghurt and cheese, too. It is a part of a recipe ring so you can go from site to site from the page. You will need a frames-capable browser to really enjoy the great navigation provided. Well done and an easy load even with a good many graphics.

Recipe Dude

Updated often and has quite a number of visitors. Numerous categories and some of the less worked ones such as dips and a good list of spices and what they are used for. It has my daughter's favorite .. chocolate strawberries! I went to her "special place" and we indulged and now I am addicted too. I checked out the "The World's Easiest Banana Bread Recipe" and was thrilled to see that even I could do this and boy, it sounds yummy. I have some Christmas gifts already listed for this goodie!

Southern Belle Family Recipes

Heavy on graphics and a long download, but some good recipes listed. Peppered shrimp, red beans and rice and some Cajun cooking are here too. The corn meal pie and hushpuppys made me feel at home.

Novagate Food Page

Although this site doesn't have reviews, it does have sites that were not listed elsewhere that are interesting. A cheese making link and links to companies such as the Diabetic Gourmet Council, Kellogg's, Jiffy Foods and many more. I love coffee and it has many links for coffee, tea and specialty drinks. It has no search engine, so you will need to scroll, but it is worth looking through.

Index Recipes for All Tastes

A few things set this site apart. A section for Tofu, mushroom, ice cream and pet foods are found here. Also a listing of rubs for seasonings. Other extras to see here, too, so take a peek at this one. The tofu list was huge and these can easily be printed out and put into cookbooks. Well, I won't be doing the tofu myself, but I am just not a tofu person.

The Recipes Folder

Before you go here, a warning. This is a vegetarian site, but does have a few recipes for meat. The labels are not palatable (with a category called dead animals that lists dead birds, cows etc.), but if you are a hearty soul or share the same views, then this is a good site. It does offer information on the vegetarian way of life and the reasons that meat may be harmful in the quantities we consume.

MasterCook

This has links to a searchable database of recipes and advice from real chefs, with a wide variety of food and cooking-related links. Very nicely done!

Ridiculously Easy Recipes

If you ever need a recipe for a snack or a quick meal, this is the place to go. There are seventeen very simple, very quick recipes that are so very easy and quick. I admit I get stressed at the thought of cooking, but this site does a lot to eliminate that.

The Food Resource-Recipes

A no-graphics site of at least a hundred links (with reviews) to recipe and cooking sites on the net.

Now You're Cooking

A very good source for recipes with an emphasis on The South's centuries-old traditions. There is an overview of their software program, "a versatile cyberkitchen companion for Windows." This site is also, of all things, a fabulous source of Redneck jokes!

Butterball

I actually signed up for the turkey mail here. I took one look at that bird all roasted and surrounded with the trimmings and got in the holiday spirit. I will now receive tips and recipes for the holidays through my e-mail. This site teaches you the secrets of carving and preparing the turkey as well as recipes for side dishes and everyday dishes. Turkey trivia and news about coupons are included too. A must stop during the holidays and if you like turkey it's a definite bookmark.

Yum Yum Recipe Index

This site boasts a total of 20,000 recipes indexed, loadable and made from scratch. I put in quiche under the cheese/dairy category and got 20 recipes. Some very interesting ones too. These are a few: Chicken And Spinach Quiche, Crustless Chili Quiche, Crustless Quiche, Impossible Breakfast Quiche, Mr. Green's Quiche Lorraine Verte, Mushroom Crust Quiche, Onion Quiche, Quesadilla Quiche, Quiche Florentine, Quiche Lorraine, Zucchini Cheddar Quiche and Zucchini Pesto Quiche! Then I tried quiche under the category of seafood and got Crab Quiche and Seafood Quiche! I have bagged my quota. I am a believer.

A Collection of Berks County Recipes

A nice collection with hundreds of local Pennsylvania Dutch recipes. The web owner says, "They were not wealthy people, but always ate well and lived long lives. Their recipes are difficult to translate because they were never really written down, just memorized from watching your mother cook, and her mother, and her mother. Translations of pinch and dash have been translated into the regulated teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, etc. that we are most familiar with."

Nerd World Cooking Recipes

Links of all types with news groups listings and other interesting areas. No reviews here, but a nice list and fun sites. This site has a search, too, but by word only and no real categories.

Trucchis Supermarkets Favorite Links

A small site, but it has recipes from around the world and even has propane service tips. Ragu's homepage is listed and it has coupons. It also has Godiva Liqueur Recipes for the Utterly Indulgent. Now, that's for me!

Hacker Lar's Recipe Archive

Around 2000 recipes to download. They are in .mxp and you will need PKUNZIP v2.04 and a text reader. Another easy program for unzipping in Windows is Winzip. I downloaded the dinner one and it was a .zip file and after extracting it I opened it in notepad and it worked fine. This is another way to get your cookbook filled with ease.

Cool Monkey Food Links

Yet another links site that's small, but has interesting links. How about the White Trash Cookin' with Ed, Street Food Around the World, Raw Sushi Home Page or the Fondue Recipes.
