WHAT THE MEDIA DOESN'T WANT YOU TO KNOW

We thought you would be interested in this breaking story about a battle between the new media and the old.

When the mass media started using the recent Heaven's Gate cult suicides as a reason to sling mud at the Net, Internet publishing pioneer Ken McCarthy and his company E-Media went on the offensive and put the mainstream media's own reporting of the story under a magnifying glass.

Carefully sifting through scores of stories from the established media, the E-Media news staff found dozens of glaring inconsistencies not only in the original statements of Richard Ford and Nick Matzorkis, but also in the media reports, and even the police investigation itself. E-Media created a Heaven's Gate web site where all their findings are hyperlinked to original sources for readers to do their own research.

The conclusions the site draws are quite startling and may change the way you look at news reporting forever.

Yahoo! ranks E-Media's site with CNN and Pathfinder at the top of its list for information on the story.

One of the site's features is a devastatingly effective critique of the state of journalism today. "The mass media condemned the Internet for helping Applewhite spread his message, but it wasn't the Internet that made him a star," said McCarthy. "CNN and ABC did that. The Net ignored him. Time, People and Newsweek put him on their covers." If you would like an interview with Ken McCarthy, simply send mailto:ken@e-media.com or phone (415) 776-1888.
