Welcome to the Cybertown Palace, dear friend. Please take the time and read the following rules: |
| 1) NO profanity
Avoid the use of profane language, please. You can't expect to cuss and be respected for that. And if you don't care about being respected at all (in a sense of feeling like experimenting, under the influence of a "this is all just for fun" motivation), perhaps you should consider that most of the rest of the people actually expect some decency in cyberspace. Of course, there are special cases where a normally profane word would be OK. For instance you might say "hell, this is outrageous!" and you might also say "the hell with you". It's obvious that there are two completely different intentions behind the word 'hell' in these two cases. When such words are used in a humorous, non-insulting manner like in the first case mentioned above, they're acceptable - again within reasonable limits. In anycase, should you use bad words by any chance, it's in the judgement of the wizards to decide if you're cussing, making fun, not really meaning it, or just being carried away for a moment. Rest assured, we're not robots; we understand :-) |
| 2) NO lewd avatars / props
Needless to say, X-rated avatars and props will NOT be tolerated in any case. The Cybertown web community (part of which the Cybertown Palace is) is promoting a socially healthy way of living, and pornography is definitely not part of this spirit. (see Cybertown FAQ, section 2: Background Info) In a similar fashion to the grey areas of profanity mentioned in rule 1, we believe there would be some cases where you could wear a spicy avatar with no problem. The rule of thumb here is common sense: If dressing like that in real life wouldn't provoke the public, you can safely wear it in our Palace. Again, the wizards will have to let you know if you crossed the line or not, so be careful and try to keep it in taste ;-) |
| 3) NO drugs, criminal activities,
or racism
Quoting directly from the Cybertown web site: "Because we have many children as visitors and residents, Cybertown is a family-oriented town that believes in forwarding constructive uplifting values that help people survive better in life. Cybertown is set in a future where people are not discriminated against on the basis of personal beliefs, sex, age or race and a future where people are not attacked for these things. By the late 21st century in Cybertown, criminal activities, drugs and other mind-control methods had also come to be considered unnecessary." Self explanatory: Enjoy (and let others enjoy) a safe part of cyberspace
:-)

| 4.a) The boss is ALWAYS RIGHT
4.b) If the boss is WRONG, see rule 4.a Nah, just kidding, hehe. Actually, what we mean is that running a chat server can be a lot heavier task than some people may think. Regular maintenance of rooms and scripts, supervising the normal flow of chatting and taking appropriate action with offenders (and all this while trying to remain calm and fun to the rest of the people) ...boy, that can be hard, hehe. So, if the wizards tell you that something you're doing or saying is not right, listen to them. Don't jump into defending your constitutional rights right away; take a minute to listen to what they have to say about the side effects of your behavior. For example, you might feel the urge to move your avatar in various positions of the room with lightning-fast mouse clicks, in an attempt to show people this new dance, or pretending that you've gone berserk. If a wizard takes you in the corner to talk you out of it, don't take it as a personal attack. Fast movement around the screen, as well as long and/or repetitive chat messages and fast avatar changes, are every Palace visitor's nightmare: They consume a great amount of bandwidth and server resources, effectively increasing the lag occuring in your fellows' connections. You're delaying everyone's messages' appearance on screen, and the wizards just have to remind you of that. However, we may run into making a mistake. Like misjudging someone's
behavior, and considering him/her a bad guy/gal while we shouldn't, especially
in overcrowded rooms. We really don't mean to be dictators or anything,
and we respect everyone's rights in cyberspace, but we're only humans and
things happen. We're always open to hearing from your comments and/or objections,
by e-mail, if you think you've been
treated unfairly by one of the wizards in our Palace, and we'll work everything
out together.

| 5) We need your feedback and
co-operation
In the spirit of our constant effort for the betterment of the Cybertown Palace, we welcome your feedback in just about everything concerning this place. Any comments, suggestions, or whatever you would or would not like to see here, let us know about it, by e-mail, or by directly contacting one of the wizards while in our Palace and they will be happy to forward your comments to the right person. You should be able to identify wizards by the * character IN FRONT of their names (wizards are the only ones that can do this). |
