What is MS?

"Multiple sclerosis (abbreviated MS, also known as disseminated sclerosis or encephalomyelitis disseminata) is a disease in which the fatty myelin sheaths around the axons of the brain and spinal cord are damaged, leading to demyelination and scarring as well as a broad spectrum of signs and symptoms.[1] Disease onset usually occurs in young adults, and it is more common in females.[1] It has a prevalence that ranges between 2 and 150 per 100,000.[2] MS was first described in 1868 by Jean-Martin Charcot.[3]"

3D Designer Sandwiches
by lilBunny, cub reporter

For CT old timers, the favorite thing to have Mina do is "make a sandwich"; )

Well, besides hearing her giggle uncontrollably as you tickle her! (you really need to go 3D for that since you won't hear her in 2D, and reading tickles is not quite the same.)

For our New Residents I thought it might be fun to dream up a few creative newbie sandwiches and watch Mina fetch them. How about you? Try your own cut of a sandwich too. Triangle, hexagonal, there are so many possibilities...

Then fill your creation with exotic fillings... Drop into the plaza and give Mina your order for the weirdest sandwich in CT history. The Command is: "make a sandwch"; and here are a few examples to get you started:

  • 1. Leftover turkey on a toasted blueberry bagel with peanut butter and mini marshmallows.
  • 2. Baked bean sandwich with 22 baked beans
  • 3. Cheese and cucumber,
  • 4. Cheese and lime pickle,
  • 5. cheese and onion
  • 6. brie, cranberry, and celery
  • 7. brie, garlic, and onion
  • 8. banana, peanut butter, and mayo

  • The left over turkey one is great! I love sandwiches? How about you?

I can imagine the trading standards of people rounding up counterfeit sandwiches from street corner vendors... even M&S copy writing the triangular sandwich cut (hey my idea and I want 100cc every time someone cuts their sandwich corner to corner).

editor's note: You can reach our cub reporter, perhaps a budding food critic, at http://www.cybertown.com/home/lilBunny for whatever comments you might want to make! (gotta log in to use this link)

    LOL!
    posted by webula

mdr: French version of the expression LOL,

from the initials of "mort de rire" that roughly translated means "dying of laughter",

asg: Swedish abbreviation of the term Asgarv, meaning intense

    laughter.

Lol is a Dutch word (not an acronym) which, coincidentally,

means "fun" ("lollig" means "funny"). In Welsh, lol means "nonsense" –

e.g., if a person wanted to say "utter nonsense" in Welsh, they would say "rwtsh lol".

    by jdb_educator

Adam Pash and Rick Broida from PC World have published their annual list of freebies! Our readers know we love freebies as much as they do. We found the article in MSNNBC and dashed over to PC World to see if there were any differences. However we went further and, if you want to see more news on freebies, Check out: http://www.pcworld.com/search?qt=Adam+Pash+and+Rick+Broida+ There are more feebies. These two writers did a lot of publishing last month!

    US Time Change
    Spring Ahead Coming

    by jdb_educator

Are you ready? This sudden change happens Sunday to and for a great many people! The Daylight Saving Time transition for second half of 2010 is coming. I hate losing the hour and yet around world changes come as the clocks flip flop forward OR back, depending on location and laws! March 14 is our DST day, but February 21 had Brasil gaining time! Chile gains and hour on March 14 and the US and Canada lose an hour by "springing ahead". Take a look for your location:

    jdb_educator

    March 4, 2010:
Now, having moved this ongoing story to a separate web page from CVN Daily, I will continue revealing my experiences with urgent evoke. Anyone interested may certainly follow along. I noticed CNN did a nice story on Evoke. You can read it here: http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/03/01/evoke.game.africa.poverty/index.html I wonder if they will do any follow up?

From posts I've read there are approximately 7000 people signed up to play.

Personally, I've gone from writing one post to several, including a photographic essay. I've gone from two "friends" to 37, with around 23 invitations extended, but not yet accepted. The friendship module reminds me of facebook and works pretty much in the same way. I've created a spreadsheet to follow my progress with friends.

It's Tokyo 2020, according to the seven page graphic novel presented at http://www.urgentevoke.com/ . Take a look at that, then the "about" section once you arrive. It will begin your training...

"EVOKE is free to play and open to anyone, anywhere. " and then you find out you have to await approval before further exploration. You play at your own pace. Our follow along page (as we play) is located at http://cvnweekly.50megs.com/jdb/Evoke/index.html :

    St. Patrick's Day
    by jdb_educator

Crusing Cybertown we discovered another nice URL on Ireland:Ireland's eye from Toila. Saint Patrick's Day is March 17th

"Saint Patrick's Day (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig) colloquially St. Paddy's Day or simply Paddy's Day, is an annual feast day that celebrates Saint Patrick (circa AD 385–461), the most commonly recognised of the patron saints of Ireland, and is generally celebrated on 17 March.

The day is a national holiday of Ireland: it is a bank holiday in Northern Ireland and a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland. It is also a public holiday in Montserrat. In Poland, Canada, United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland), Australia, the United States and New Zealand, it is widely celebrated but is not an official holiday."

    Learn to Let Go
    posted by mamamia

We applaud mamamia's statement below and note that these statements apply equally well to Real Life just as they do to Virtual Life. - Editor's note

Things I have learned as a returning CT citizen after being absent for many years:

  • If anyone can blow it like I have and come back ready and able to perform the functions of a leader, that would be me.
  • Learn from all mistakes, take them with a grain of salt and forge ahead.
  • Never give up, maybe just slow the pace a little.
  • Never assume or be ignorant of anything. Always know your facts from the get-go, it will make your life so much easier in the long run.
  • Demand of yourself a higher standard and never stop asking questions. Pound on the doors for an answer until you are satisfied with the results of your questions.

Must of all, don't let your mistakes rule your life, we all make them and we all move on and learn from them. Not one single person alive has never made a mistake, Not one.

    Cybertown helps IVN With Thanks

    posted by stone_98

As the year ends, the workload always seems to increase. The same is true for Cybertown. Cybertown veteran, Vialle, has agreed to help the IVN representative, Emsquared, for a few hours here and there through the end of the year. Vialle will be focusing on a review of sponsorships and responding to e-mails but wont be available on the phones or to take payments. Vialle asks that citizens help spread the word for "everyone to make sure their main nick (if sponsored) has a valid email address." This, of course, is true for all main accounts, as well.

Please note that your e-mails should continue be sent to billing AT integratedvirtualnetworks.com and we have the toll-free phone number for subscriber issues: 800-557-2500.

Thank you, Vialle, for helping out this way and thank you to Emsquared for all that you do to keep our subscribers' questions answered. You are both greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Stone

How Do We Pay Our Subscriptions?

    by jdb_educator

Cybertown citizens are asking how do we pay for Cybertown now that the telephone number is not working. CVN discussed this with the mayor and discovered a few recommendations.

Paying for your subscription using your paypal account is probably the easiest and most effective way. From what we understand, if someone uses paypal, the account is automatically credited and the subscription updated.

Wovencroft warns "I am not sure it is such a good idea for anyone to be emailing credit card information to any place, even IVN. Emails are notoriously insecure and almost always transmitted in plain text. Might want to consider removing that idea from CVN." We did consider woven's request. Instead we will urge you to have a small amount secure card for use with internet purchases, IF at all possible. Sadly woven is exactly correct, emailing credit card info is dangerous, and using routing numbers even more so unless you create a separate account strictly for Cybertown payments. We are very sorry that this seems to complicate life. Nothing is ever easy in our unsafe world of real life.

Citizens can also e-mail IVN with payment information (ie, credit card info, but be cautious. Best is paypal or snail mail your payment to the IVN address. At present we are unsure if IVN can do electronic transfers with routing info, etc., so we will seek to find out if that is a possibility.

Mayor stone told us "a number of people that have contacted me have not tried the e-mail, they have only tried the phone number". We understand that IVN is continuing to look into getting the phone service restarted but it has taken longer than we'd hoped.

Therefore it is clear to us, and we hope it is clear to our readers that you should start with an email to IVN at billing@integratedvirtualnetworks.com. And the mayor added "If you continue to have problems, you can also e-mail me at stone98ct@phazite.com " use subscription payment problems as your subject.

CVN thanks Beca for bringing this to our attention and stone_98 for discussing the issue with us. And thanks to wovencroft for his wise warning. We hope this story helps our readers.

"The best option and the one I usually give is to post on the Sponsorship Club board(http://www.cybertown.com/cgi-bin/cybertown/place?. I know there are those who regularly check there to see if someone needs assistance. I don't know of anyone right now that is offering to pay for sponsorships but I know that there are those who will often consider it when they know who needs one."
Before I could write that to my friend, I got a quick note:
"I'm saved! i found a sponsor, but thanks for helping "
That intrigued me so I asked what had happened and discovered the answer:
"i just wandered into the fleamarket and i said 'anyone know someone who sponsors?' and then the sponsor (not telling the name) said 'who needs a sponsor?' and i said 'I do' and then i was sponsored"
    That's Cybertown!

    Avoiding Free Trial Abuse!
    Security Helpful Tips

We all know that long term members have an issue with storage. Right now, there is only one way to increase the storage capacity on your member account and that is to add another nickname. However, a few members have accidentally initiated a free trial account when trying to add another nickname and increase storage and this puts them in danger of a Unified Ban Policy penalty for Free Trial Abuse.

Avoiding this is relatively easy. First, immigrate as per usual for a new account. Fill in the application, making sure to include a valid email address. When you get an email that your new account has been accepted on the Cybertown server, do NOT log in using the activation code. That will automatically open up a free trial account. Instead, go to the second step as advised here and contact billing@integratedvirtualnetworks.com, or phone IVN at 1-888-557-5611 (between 10am - 5pm EST ), and let them know you are trying to add a new nickname.

Billing issues are generally, though not always, answered by Vialle. Whoever replies will be happy to guide you through the next few steps of adding the new nickname to your account. It's only a buck more a month unless you pay for a family account, which is $99.95 a year and allows you have to one main nickname and up to 5 others.

Some people realize old members have come back under the free trial and try to help them re-establish themselves in Cybertown under the new name. But this isn't fair to either the old member or to IVN which operates this site.

Old members could be sponsored for up to 30 days by IVN if they follow the proper protocols. That is, if an old member who has been out of CT for at least six months contacts IVN and asks for a free month to evaluate a potential return, there is a possibility this will be granted, as long as the former member has no security record. This is the best of both possible worlds. The returning member not only gets a month in CT for free, they also get all of their cc back and get to have back all the objects in their BP and their storage units. These objects are often rares when a former member returns and could be worth untold riches if sold in the Flea.

Otherwise, if they try to hide under a free trial nickname, they will be banned for Free Trial Abuse once Security discovers them. And everything that was given them to re-establish themselves will be lost as a free trial ban is punishable by a permanent ban both on the new and old nicknames.

No one likes to do these kinds of bans. For that reason, returning members may also contact ABluEyedBrunette, our Security Commissioner, for help to obtain this possible free month.

    IVN/CT POLICY

Did you know? Any Cybertown citizen can purchase space in the top frame for things like events & special announcements (b'days, anniversaries, etc.) The current rate is $20 per week, $60 per month.

These are special rates for, NON-commercial ads and as always, all banners must be Founder approved before they can be uploaded. Advertisements for businesses are handled differently at different rates.

IVN/Cybertown thanks Holodoc, ND of Star Trek Hood in Sci-fi, who not only helped in the planning stage is also the creator of the first banner to take advantage of this new option!

This will not affect the cotm (Colony of the Month) banners or any that are already up there.

Interested parties should contact me at billing@integratedvirtualnetworks.com
