Glitch Time!

We regret the non-publication on Friday and are invesigating what happened. Our biggest regret is not publishing in time for the birthdays. deb44's was Saturday, February 6. armandii and jdb_educator celebrate Sunday February 7. Sunday we rushed to publish the weekend edition at our alternate site, posting the link on all the Colony Boards and Announcements. We will leave all stories in this Monday edition edition too, adding our new stories :) Sorry all!

Super Bowl Contest WINNERS
jdb_educator

What a contest! What a game! The game went down to the final 3.24 minutes before New Orleans could breath easy for the Big Easy! The New Orleans Saints prevailed once again by pass interception, just as they did against the Vikings in the Conference Championships. And yes, it was the same Saints cornerback, Tracy Porter. Porter flew 74 yards to set the final score at 31-17, securing the win for the Saints over the Indianapolis Colts. This was the first Superbowl win in franchise history for the Saints.

In our CVN contest ferretlady takes top prize. We posted on January 11: "contestants pursuing ONE MILLION CCs for the best prediction record through the Superbowl!" ferretlady did not post to The Campus and so her winnings do not double, but she wins the contest with 8 points earned througout the playoffs. mamamia, Hawkeye320, and Toila all scored 7 points and came in second, and also did not post to The Campus, so their unannounced winnings do not double! Each of them win 200, 000 CCs (since we don't have to pay out millions and millions. Had any one of our second place winners posted or reposted their prediction to The Campus they would have won the contest!

Finally, the only "analysts" to pick the Saints missed on the scores, so neither the 10 nor the 20 million doubled CCs prize will be awarded this year, even though some did post to The Campus! However we DO want to note that ferretlady, Doug_Black, mamamia, Hawkeye320, Toila, vialle, AuntBee, Smitty_The_Kid , Riva28, and Jasonrocks72 all correctly predicted the Saints would win! WTG!!! CVN missed the boat, the ocean and this Mutiversal version of Earth with our 17-10 Colts win prediction.

Campus College Trivia Contest Winners!
jdb_educator

We had a wonder week of College Trivia on the Campus. We thank everyone who responded. A new series of College Trivia will be posted around town today. All answers must be posted on The Campus Message Board to qualify for the 2K prize.

Our College Trivia winners are listed by the posted number of the question. We congratulate our winners and especially Shady_Lady, who snatched three correct answers with her quick, accurate posting. If you just want to see the questions, dash over to the Clubs, they are easy to find. Otherwise scroll though the Campus MB for the questions AND the answers.

February House Contest STILL Open

Our February house contest now has 4 judges, 8 entries in the professional division, raising the prize money fund to 8 million CCs. We now have our first entry into our non-designer section beginning the prize at One million CCs. Nominations close Wednesday and houses need to be finalized for presentation and judging by 11:59:59 PM CyT ! Judging will start on the 14th and continue probably through the 16th depending on responses from our judges. Links will be updated tomorrow as we clean out and update our stories in CVN.

CVN Analyst Speaks!
jdb_educator

From: CharizardII
I have to go with my prediction from right after the Conference Championships with the Colts winning... I'm going to say the score will be 32-26... I'm going to go even further and say that Manning will be named the MVP... Though he may not deserve it, as was the case in Super Bowl XLI.

But that's neither here nor there... Indy really proved to me that they deserve to be here and want to be champions again... It's tough overcoming an 11-point deficit... It's even tougher to overcome that deficit against the #1 defense in the league. I haven't seen the desire from the Saints yet this post-season... They won handily against the Cardinals, but limped to the Super Bowl in a game that could have turned into a blow-out, but from every opportunity they received from Minnesota, they really couldn't do anything. Indy's D is just as good if not better than Minnesota's. With all the hype going into this game about Manning vs. Brees... Definitely look for and enjoy this game panning out that way... It should live up to expectations, but look for Indianapolis' Defense to come up with at least one... maybe two key stops that will allow Manning and that offense a little bit of breathing room. And watch for the New Orleans' Defense to show signs of trouble when faced with having to contain that very, very efficient Indy Pass offense right after those big stops by the Colts' D.

That's just my two cents...

Super Bowl Contest: Last Chance to Enter!
jdb_educator

The Super Bowl is this Sunday! Our special fund for the Super Bowl prediction contest was TEN MILLION CCs!!! IF you predict AND post the actual winner and the actual score for the Superbowl to The Campus message Board, YOU could win TWENTY MILLION CCs!!!

So far we have 23 contestants for this contest. Not all have posted their scores yet for this game. BUT the total points predicted gives us The Saints 361 - The Colts 360. The average of all the scores so far breaks down to Saints 20.64 to Colts 20.58. Is that amazing or what!

The Vegas line today is 4.5 to 5 points in the spread, favoring The Indianapolis Colts. for example if you take the New Orleans Saints and the spread, if they win by 5 or more or they lose by less than 5 points you win. "Spread betting is any of various types of wagering on the outcome of an event, where the pay-off is based on the accuracy of the wager, rather than a simple 'win or lose' outcome, such as fixed-odds (or money-line) betting or parimutuel betting. A spread is a range of outcomes, and the bet is whether the outcome will be above or below the spread." (Our source ishttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spread_betting)

We'll use a 4 point spread for this one:
"If the gambler bets on the "underdog", he is said to take the points and will win if the underdog's score plus the spread is greater than the favorite's score:
" The eventual score is Saints 31, Colts 33: then 31 + 4 >35, so the gambler wins;
The eventual score is Saints 31, Colts 37: then 31 + 4 < 35, so the gambler loses.
"If the gambler bets on the "favorite", he gives the points and will win if the favorite's score minus the spread is greater than the underdog's score:
" The eventual score is Saints 28, Colts 33: then 33 - 4 > 29, so the gambler wins;
The eventual score is Saints 38, Colts 37: then 37 - 4 < 33, so the gambler loses.

According to Fox's unscientific poll 57% believe the Colts will win. (861,652 votes when we checked.)

CVN predicts Colts 17 Saints 10 What do you think? And...If you post or even repost your prediction under our Super Bowl posts this week on The Campus you could win double points and/or DOUBLE your winnings to TWENTY MILLION CCs!!!

You can follow the news at-or at many other sites- http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/6840160/ns/sports-super_bowl_xliv

many other posters have joined Shady_Lady in the search for a 20 million CCs Prize! It happened when she, others, and a couple of new players posted her Super Bowl pick to The Campus message board. Her prediction: Colts 30 - Saints 10 . Of course the Colts do have to win ...and by that exact score! yup, you read it right! As part of CVN support for The Campus COTM we are placing TWENTY MILLION into the winners pot for our contestants who post or repost their Super Bowl predictions to The Campus Message Board. Shady_Lady is the first to do so.

As usual, just post your choice beneath our most current and now final "Super Bowl" post on any colony board, the Clubs MB, the Flea MB, or under Announcements on the feedback boards. You can even inbox me with your choices, or more rarely, catch me in chat or by IM...

Daily Trivia in The Campus
jdb_educator

Today marks our fourth post of College Trivia. Today's question! For 2k: "What is the largest University in the United States and what is its enrollment?"

Thursday's question asked For 2k: "What is the oldest university in the world that is still granting degrees?" The answer was provided by VeganLad who correctly posted the University of Al-Karaouine.

We will be posting through the weekend! Thanks for your terrific response. Markjut was the first to post the correct answer to our question: "What was the first college to grant degrees to women?" Here is our answer link to yesterdays question:http://www.wesleyancollege.edu/About/FirstforWomen/tabid/133/Default.aspx We will post to all the boards with today's question. The answer must be posted on The Campus under our post!

CVN started Campus Trivia and there will be other MB game posts that will run through the month of February. This week we are only posting "College Trivia" so have some fun and guess by posting your answer below our post! All questions remain valid until the correct answer is given, and our confirming response posted, or until next monday's post.

February House Contest Open

Nominations will need to close by February 10, so we can finalize judging pages, although houses do not need to be completed until February 13, as noted below. Judges are also needed.

It is http://www.cybertown.com/home/News_Slush_Fund
lol we reread our own rules and will add an image at the entrance, as well as double count our images in the single room devoted to webdoc

    The Blog keeps Rolling Along!

This weekend we will add another blog entry. If you haven't looked at last years SuperBowl commercials We've blogged them by adding a page link and our thoughts are on that page with an rss script that allows us to present the ads directly to you with popup video

we also took on a Super Bowl Controversy on our CVN family friendly bog. On Friday we blogged on the ten worst Superbowl commercials in history, according to some advertising people. Now YOU have the opportunity to post your thoughts! Stay tuned to CVN! Our blog is a free site offering no count, so we simply don't know if we have any visitors unless you post a comment. You can simply tell us you visited, or ask us to take on a topic, or comment on a topic already published. lol or not visit at all. Our goal is 52 blog entries for 2010 (2087 for cytonians).

Earlier in January we used a post by Purple_Iris that got our creative juices flowing. Then we found a controversy over a super Bowl commercial. What fun! Those two blog entry posts should be ready for tomorrow's edition! but we only got the first one done. We hope we will get more response from readers this time.

Our sincere thanks to Toila who verified that our settings work!!! We can receive comments privately. All new posts are supposed to be private. Then we can publish any that are relevant, deleting any that arent! The link is cvn-the-blog: http://cvn-the-blog.i8.com/cgi-bin/blog

    Pro Bowl Wrap up

Now there is only 1 game left, The Super Bowl! Here are the people awarded TWO points for the correct selection on the Pro Bowl game ... Did we have anyone predict the correct score and win the 1,000,000 CCs bonus? The answer is no. Only 3 players chose the AFC as winners: mamamia predicted AFC 26 NFC 24, Toila prognosticated AFC 31 NFC 24, and CVN's Analyst stated AFC, 42-38. the correct score was AFC 41 NFC 34 Here we present CharizardII's thoughts on the Pro Bowl below in yellow!

Despite the fact that the NFC has won the last two Pro-Bowls, I feel the AFC will come through this year...

Should be a close game, but has the possiblity to become a shoot-out.

    AFC, 42-38

    Our personal choice was:

    Cybertown helps IVN With Thanks

    posted by stone_98

As the year ends, the workload always seems to increase. The same is true for Cybertown. Cybertown veteran, Vialle, has agreed to help the IVN representative, Emsquared, for a few hours here and there through the end of the year. Vialle will be focusing on a review of sponsorships and responding to e-mails but wont be available on the phones or to take payments. Vialle asks that citizens help spread the word for "everyone to make sure their main nick (if sponsored) has a valid email address." This, of course, is true for all main accounts, as well.

Please note that your e-mails should continue be sent to billing AT integratedvirtualnetworks.com and we have the toll-free phone number for subscriber issues: 800-557-2500.

Thank you, Vialle, for helping out this way and thank you to Emsquared for all that you do to keep our subscribers' questions answered. You are both greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    The Elkhart Project
    by jdb_educator
Have you visited? Or Revisited this project? There is a LOT going on.

A town of 51,000 people, 19% unemployment and a news website to follow how the Great Depression of 2007 affects them. With three visits by the President of the US, it is reasonable to consider this a test case for all the plans made for recovery. MSNBC seems to believe that too, since they have created this project. You can follow it here, and CVN will too.

How Do We Pay Our Subscriptions?

    by jdb_educator

Cybertown citizens are asking how do we pay for Cybertown now that the telephone number is not working. CVN discussed this with the mayor and discovered a few recommendations.

Paying for your subscription using your paypal account is probably the easiest and most effective way. From what we understand, if someone uses paypal, the account is automatically credited and the subscription updated.

Wovencroft warns "I am not sure it is such a good idea for anyone to be emailing credit card information to any place, even IVN. Emails are notoriously insecure and almost always transmitted in plain text. Might want to consider removing that idea from CVN." We did consider woven's request. Instead we will urge you to have a small amount secure card for use with internet purchases, IF at all possible. Sadly woven is exactly correct, emailing credit card info is dangerous, and using routing numbers even more so unless you create a separate account strictly for Cybertown payments. We are very sorry that this seems to complicate life. Nothing is ever easy in our unsafe world of real life.

Citizens can also e-mail IVN with payment information (ie, credit card info, but be cautious. Best is paypal or snail mail your payment to the IVN address. At present we are unsure if IVN can do electronic transfers with routing info, etc., so we will seek to find out if that is a possibility.

Mayor stone told us "a number of people that have contacted me have not tried the e-mail, they have only tried the phone number". We understand that IVN is continuing to look into getting the phone service restarted but it has taken longer than we'd hoped.

Therefore it is clear to us, and we hope it is clear to our readers that you should start with an email to IVN at billing@integratedvirtualnetworks.com. And the mayor added "If you continue to have problems, you can also e-mail me at stone98ct@phazite.com " use subscription payment problems as your subject.

CVN thanks Beca for bringing this to our attention and stone_98 for discussing the issue with us. And thanks to wovencroft for his wise warning. We hope this story helps our readers.

"my access to CT is up soon, and i haven't heard from my sponsor, without a sponsor i can't return to CT, but i don't wanna leave CT :(, plz help if you can".
I sent off a couple of emails and found by reply:
"The best option and the one I usually give is to post on the Sponsorship Club board(http://www.cybertown.com/cgi-bin/cybertown/place?. I know there are those who regularly check there to see if someone needs assistance. I don't know of anyone right now that is offering to pay for sponsorships but I know that there are those who will often consider it when they know who needs one."
Before I could write that to my friend, I got a quick note:
"I'm saved! i found a sponsor, but thanks for helping "
That intrigued me so I asked what had happened and discovered the answer:
"i just wandered into the fleamarket and i said 'anyone know someone who sponsors?' and then the sponsor (not telling the name) said 'who needs a sponsor?' and i said 'I do' and then i was sponsored"
    That's Cybertown!

    Avoiding Free Trial Abuse!
    Security Helpful Tips

We all know that long term members have an issue with storage. Right now, there is only one way to increase the storage capacity on your member account and that is to add another nickname. However, a few members have accidentally initiated a free trial account when trying to add another nickname and increase storage and this puts them in danger of a Unified Ban Policy penalty for Free Trial Abuse.

Avoiding this is relatively easy. First, immigrate as per usual for a new account. Fill in the application, making sure to include a valid email address. When you get an email that your new account has been accepted on the Cybertown server, do NOT log in using the activation code. That will automatically open up a free trial account. Instead, go to the second step as advised here and contact billing@integratedvirtualnetworks.com, or phone IVN at 1-888-557-5611 (between 10am - 5pm EST ), and let them know you are trying to add a new nickname.

Billing issues are generally, though not always, answered by Vialle. Whoever replies will be happy to guide you through the next few steps of adding the new nickname to your account. It's only a buck more a month unless you pay for a family account, which is $99.95 a year and allows you have to one main nickname and up to 5 others.

Some people realize old members have come back under the free trial and try to help them re-establish themselves in Cybertown under the new name. But this isn't fair to either the old member or to IVN which operates this site.

Old members could be sponsored for up to 30 days by IVN if they follow the proper protocols. That is, if an old member who has been out of CT for at least six months contacts IVN and asks for a free month to evaluate a potential return, there is a possibility this will be granted, as long as the former member has no security record. This is the best of both possible worlds. The returning member not only gets a month in CT for free, they also get all of their cc back and get to have back all the objects in their BP and their storage units. These objects are often rares when a former member returns and could be worth untold riches if sold in the Flea.

Otherwise, if they try to hide under a free trial nickname, they will be banned for Free Trial Abuse once Security discovers them. And everything that was given them to re-establish themselves will be lost as a free trial ban is punishable by a permanent ban both on the new and old nicknames.

No one likes to do these kinds of bans. For that reason, returning members may also contact ABluEyedBrunette, our Security Commissioner, for help to obtain this possible free month.

    IVN/CT POLICY

Did you know? Any Cybertown citizen can purchase space in the top frame for things like events & special announcements (b'days, anniversaries, etc.) The current rate is $20 per week, $60 per month.

These are special rates for, NON-commercial ads and as always, all banners must be Founder approved before they can be uploaded. Advertisements for businesses are handled differently at different rates.

IVN/Cybertown thanks Holodoc, ND of Star Trek Hood in Sci-fi, who not only helped in the planning stage is also the creator of the first banner to take advantage of this new option!

This will not affect the cotm (Colony of the Month) banners or any that are already up there.

Interested parties should contact me at billing@integratedvirtualnetworks.com
