Game Warming Up In Inner Realms

From the Inner Realms Colony Message board:
From: mickeyw
Subject: Enough!!!
Feeling every animal and tree that has been injured i walk out of the inn. Summoning the power of the Realm itself i transform in to crinos form. Letting the power flow into and back out of me i heal those that are harmed. "You will not harm the innocent, that i will not allow!" Moving as only a Gurahl can, striking fear in to any that would oppose me i start the hunt. "Let he that knows fear feel the pain they have caused. So speaks the power of Mother Oak! B1, no longer are you the hunter. Here in my realm you are now the hunted."

One Person Does Make a Difference
jdb_educator, CVN

The following link on MSNBC news describes an incredible story, worth your taking a moment to click. The world knows that America has a long history of celebrating individualism. Individuals make up teams, right. Small schools often have difficulty finding enough students to field a team. Qualifying for State level competition usually means members of the team must meet certain standards to be allowed to compete. Here we have a most unusual state contending track team.

GAS PRICES GO CRAZY!!!!!
presented by editme on the Sci-Fi Board

Sometimes the news doesn't roll in the way we would like. Then, we go and try to chase down something (ok, anything!) of interest . We all know about gas prices going through the roof, but what if oil wasn't what we used to power vehicles. Here is some thought provoking information Sci-Fi Colony leader editme dug up somewhere:

  • If you were to fill up the tank of your car with Hewlett-Packard or Lexmark ink, it would cost $100,000.
  • If you filled an Olympic-size swimming pool with ink from HP or Lexmark inkjet cartridges, it would cost $5.9 billion with a B.

  • Here is the math:
  • One fluid ounce equals: 29.5735 milliliters, one black cartridge contains around 15 milliliters and it costs $30 - $35, so around $60 - $70 per ounce. Multiply by 128 ounces per gallon and you have $8000 a gallon.

    Realms Gamers Resist Rule!

In a text game posted on Inner Realms' Colony Message Board we find the following, slightly edited:

    From: b1a1b
    All Hail the King

The crowd all over the realms was large and growing larger beside the throne of the stone fist. The fake mickey was smiling and waving to his adoring fans as the fake cheercoach proudly stood beside him.

All around ,the men in black cloaks stood with weapons at the ready just in case someone from the inn decided to make an appearance. The pictures of the cohorts in the inn had been passed around to all the guards, as well as the spies in the realms. The sky was filled with the black dragons brock had summoned from the hills, although they had long ago been banished for their evil ways. But the new king had made them a deal. Defeat the inn, defend the king, rule the realms!

From all over the realms the druids council had been summoned and were now in attendance, Brock transformed his appearence into one of them. Ladysilversplash approached the throne with the crown of the realms and crowned fake mickey. The druids all clapped with grim faces as the arrows notched and aimed at their heads directed.

The new King was crowned and, as discussed, his first order of business was to declare all inside the inn enemies of the state. The army, black guards and brocks personal spies all set out to "bring in those not loyal to the stone fist". In the city council those same actions were rubber stamped, made legal and the realms colony was declared an emergency area. They were told, "The ones in the inn must be caught, and taken into custody." All over the city more and more black cloaks began to pour forth.

    From: o0rion
    Prelude to b1's fate......

I peer down from my perch in the skies, watching over the realms. I see all of the Blasphemy, Lies, and complete Deceit, I see more than I can take.

As I begin to transend myself from the skies letting everyone know that i'm very displeased with the current workings. I begin to draw my bow, aimed at the (fake) mickey. Meanwhile everyone around readies their arms, planning for what seems to be the inevitable.

I then realize and pause, saying to (fake) mickey "You are undeserving of this arrow. You are nothing more than a pawn in a twisted game. Now step down from the throne and let the real mickey take his rightful seat." I hand him over to the knights and centaurs of the realms.

"No more games b1, No more hiding, come out of your cowardice and fight like a man."

    Cybercrime Continues

Playing with A Chat in Software

    jdb_educator, CVN

The difference in sizes is amazing. I tried several approaches for the places gala. First I copy/pasted the entire chat into word and changed the color of text to black. The result: 233kb. Then I saved that as an rtf file. I was shocked to see that file come out as 465 kb. I guess Microsft discorages that option from Word. Then I saved the original doc in .txt format. The result was a far more manageable 61kb. So I took that file and threw it in coffeecup, my editor software of choice, added break tags at the start of each speaker-and a little spacing- and got a most satisfactory 66kb html page result to present to our readers. Here is the chat from the Places Gala held on May 3rd at the Cybertown City Hall. The only text changes made were additions and corrections to my own typooed chat.(we have long ceased and desisted from typos, and only type pooh these days!(typoo). I added the text we missed to our html pages from the text log provided by Places, posted by LadySilverSplash, and that brings the file size up to 69kb: The html page may be accessed here http://cvnweekly.50megs.com/000/places_gala1.html.

The text download from Chiefs is here: Places Award Dowload for those who prefer that.

    May Is Here

Today is the first day of May. The E! Colony and many activities-both virtual and real- will be arriving. "The month may have been named for the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman era goddess of fertility, Bona Dea, whose festival was held in May. See:-Months in various calendars

In Japan, there is a so-called 'May sickness', where new students or workers start to be tired of their new schoolwork or jobs. (In Japan school years and fiscal years start on April 1st.)

In any given year, no other month starts on the same day of the week as May. The same is true for June. Our source-and to read more-:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May

Solutions Superguide: 529 Tips for Better Computing
    by jdb_educator
We just found out our weekly editor, deb44, has joined the Vista crowd. Our sympathies, prayers and encouragement go to her as she fiddles with the operating system as so many have. Our hope is that deb becomes one of the few whoo experience no problems. We imagine we will migrate to Vista too... some day... unless we can successfully keep avoiding it!

We think it would be really cool if one or more events were dedicated to helping Vista users adapt to Cybertown.

If you are one of those people using Windows Vista, this article appears to be for you. PC Mag has gathered up all kinds of information that may make your use of that operating system easier. Please let us know if you find the article useful. Send to CVNDaily AT cybertown.com Please use the subject: 529 tips.

    Do You Remember?
    The Good Old Days: 2058!

    by jdb_educator
You remember 2058? Oh yeah those were indeed the good old days. Take a look at this feature from MSNBC from old Earth on how the world looked in the year 2058. Kids today tend to pay no attention to history, but this might spark some interest. It is recent, only 38 years ago. Ah for those days when men were men, women were women and nanobots filled them both. Such changes since then. So take a quick look: http://cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/04/18/915263.aspx

    Security, Always Problematic
CVN and others are constantly telling their readers of dangers. Did you know "nearly half the Internet users queried in a new survey said they use just one password for all their online accounts." Read on from USA Today: http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/computersecurity/2008-04-16-repeat-passwords_N.htm

    The Campus Colony Leader Blogs!
b1a1b continues blogging. He tells us, "I am certainly liking the blog". b1 is using it to discuss a variety of subjects ranging from Cybertown, the city council to personal life. In the latest entry he says: " People who have never been depressed will not understand depression, they will not understand the raincloud that follows you around or how all you want to do is stay in bed. " He explains one possible solution.

We checked and the blog is pretty regular. The URL below allows all our readers to view the blog without signing into the city, we think.

We dash over every now and then and... continue to read the entries! Check out the link on the Campus Portal. :) CVN did: http://www.campuscolony.com/portal/blog.php

    Cybertown History Underway

Over the weekend the council decided that using one of the cybertown servers is the place to go. Wovencroft set up the site so now we have two wikis. jdb_educator was cheerfully handed the keys, told to get busy and even more cheerfully told by wovencroft not to make extra work for him. jdb_educator chuckled as he told CVN: "I take that as a personal challenge." and is busy figuring out ways to use a couple of hundred hours of wovencroft's time.

The originl wiki site below will be used as another presence on the web to celebrate Cybertown and will eventually begin to refer readers to our simplified Cybertown based wiki once jdb finishes playing around with it and figuring out how it works. The Cybertown wiki eliminates advertisements and is plain-text based, providing better security. Links to all the history pages the project can find will be linked there. As soon as there is an actual front page, we will publicize its location.

The Cybertown History project has been slowly growing. The council has been kicking in ideas and reminiscing. MauveCat set up a site and named jdb_educator administrator. Since then we've all begun thinking and posting. Right now a first discussion on the introduction is underway. We have several topic areas set up by MC, and we are still looking for writers. Writers must be invited. So let us know your preferred email address for this project and email us at CVNDaily AT cybertown.com using the subject Cybertown History or you can send to jdb_educator's address or inbox.
See the early action at http://cthistory.wetpaint.com/
Currently there are nine writers on the project. Its colorful and is growing.

Cries of terror, arms booming, the smell of smoke and destruction.

A sending, I must ... call forth Bahamut from his lair. He lights with the ease of many years. I leap aboard and send him a message to fly to the Council chambers as fast as his wings will go...

    Tired of Bad News?
    jdb_educator

We are! Some days we dread opening up the many news sites we survey. People killed, people killing, and all those scandals, slavery stories, terror here and there, drugs, catastrophe, Global warning, Ice age coming, etc. etc. It gets kind of repetitive and depressing doesn't it? MSNBC has a solution! We have bookmarked a site, for those days when we want to read good news. That meant of course we had to do a quick search for others as well:
    MSNBC: Wonderful World at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13282721/

    Goodnews Weekly Newsletter and site
    http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/
Then there are a number of religion specific sites. But two sites against a million, ain't bad!

    US Doctors Make Major Errors

    by Hawk, Cybertown Founder
Hawk brings CVN readers this very recently posted second article:
"Many centuries ago, superior Chinese physicians were only paid when their patients were well and not paid when they were ill. So they treated combinations of symptoms in such a way that, rather than suppressing them, they worked to re-balance the body so that it could heal itself.

Imagine if US medical doctors were held to the same standard - they'd be broke!" To read more on "the major errors that US medical doctors routinely make, as a direct result of the narrowness in how they are trained" go to: http://www.foodkills.org/medicalmyths/symptoms1.html
