Happy Birthday to the U S of A: 1776-2004

Sunday is the 228th anniversary of the American "Declaration of Independence." The Declaration eloquently asserts "That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness;..." Take a look at the Avalon project and read the Delaration of Independence. It IS a fairly short document.

Cybertown Goes to Dragon Con 2004

It is official. The Cybertown Reunion 2093 Planning Committee has seen a flurry of emails as a discussion on the 2005 Cybertown Reunion took place. It started with plans for a scouting expedition to this year's Dragon Con for planning. As is typical of almost any Cybertown discussion, the conversation took a new twist that now has a panel to discuss Cybertown presenting at Dragon*con this year!

Currently available information has the Cybertown panel gathered Sunday, September 5th, 2004 at 10:00 a.m., in the Piedmont Room at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta, GA.

Description: Demo & discussion of Cybertown, life in 2092, things to do in the city, real-world benefits of 3D community.

Cybertown Ambassador Candidates: Get those Applicatoins Filed

It's time once again to begin the process of selecting the Ambassadors Council for 2092. If your immigration date is between February 16, 2003 and July 16, 2004, you have a minimum of 3K experience points on the date of your application, and you have a clean security record *you* could be one of our next Ambassadors!

The Ambassadors Council is here to serve the CT Community from helping a new resident find just the right avatar, to helping put together a proposal for the Council and everything in between - we are available to assist the citizens in any way that we can. Honored Titles Coming July 31

We also know that the Honored Title Awards Ceremony is scheduled for 12:00 noon CyT at the Pool and that the Pool will have an event immediately following the Honored Title Awards Ceremony.

Colonies are beginning to send out notices detailing honored titles application due dates. So check with your hood and colony leaders to make sure your application for Honored Titles is submitted when it needs to be submitted.



June Colonists of the Month Coming

CVN gratefully thanks the several people who assist our efforts as we continue to promote and publicize the COTM program. May results are complete with June coming out as soon as possible. Our thanks go to Gia, IsTLKing, stone98 and the many CLs for helping us get the details sorted out, jdb_educator gets a nod for the web pages, and hugz to Vialle for seeing that they get paid out of the virtually limitless Cybertown treasury! Here are the May Colonists of the Month . When you get a chance, drop in, say hi to these most valuable people and say thanks! We expect June's result to be available in early July.

Java Change to Affect Cybertown

Citizens, see the link which has been publicized all over town and CVN Java This will be appearing hard coded on all the message boards across Cybertown and in the 2D chat above the chat window in the next few hours. Note, the site has been put together by the COM Tech team and any acknowledgements should go to Simioni.

Cybertown European Reunion Pictures And Movie!

This independently developed citizen experience in Nottingham was clearly a blast and those citizens who attended spent days uploading pictures of their get together. According to Jason_RC, there are over 2000 files including images and .avi videos that capture some of what took place. We have looked at many, and hope you will too.

Karyl and Wovencroft contacted us and we can now present you with the results. More information and even avi files are coming! The main one currently in the pipeline is at dragon.con (Atlanta), with other venues for other events being suggested from a range of sources. Random Acts of Kindness

    COMMEMORATIVE WEBSITE OPEN

    Many stories are now available on a commemorative website, which was launched on the day of the event. This site will continue to provide us all with a constant reminder of how special our community is to our members. Not only was this a wonderful and heartfelt event, but we have, and are now left with, a timeless reminder and great advertisement for our community.

                              CYBERTOWN AND PHONICS

    In 1996, an article by Tracy Sherwood entitled, "PHONICS: THE RIGHT WAY & THE WRONG WAY" was printed in a Washington newspaper where it was picked up by Cybertown and published on the Internet. Almost immediately, this article hit the top ten search finds with the keyword phonics. It spread to other major search engines and has remained in the top 30 ever since. This article has changed the face of phonics. Nearly every phonics promotion and materials has based its techniques on the philosophy introduced in this article and from Tracy's phonics program materials. Tracy has written a new article entitled, "THE NEW PHONICS" in which she credits Cybertown's part in this success and has kindly made it available to Cybertown for publication.

                              AMNESTY AND EVIDENTIARY TRIBUNAL

    In honor of ex-Mayor Flyby, we have created a limited Amnesty for the majority of previously banned ex-members. We have also created an Evidentiary Tribunal recourse line for any banned ex-members who feel that their bans were unjust. Details and links can be found at the new Permanent Ban Recourse section of the UBP.

    UNIFIED BAN POLICY

    The purpose of the UBP is to clarify the points made in the Cybertown Constitution so that there is an understandable set of consequences for common in fractions. The intention is not in any to restrict freedoms but rather to make participation in the site enjoyable and safe for all.

    The Cybertown Constitution, the site's Legal Notices, and Unified Ban Policy(updated link) will all be enforced swiftly and thoroughly.

    ATTENTION, CYTONIANS!

    No one in Cybertown needs anyone's Cybertown password for anything ever. You will never be required to give out your password for a Cybertown job. Whoever asks for it should be reported to Security immediately!

    It has come to the attention of Cybertown Staff that some people are being told that in order to have a job in Cybertown they must give out their Cybertown login password so that they can be given access rights to do their job. THIS IS NOT TRUE.

    Your login password is yours and yours alone. Please DO NOT give out your password to anyone in Cybertown for any reason. Any legitimate person who wants to hire you for a job in Cybertown does not need your login password for any reason.

    Any legitimate Cybertown or blaxxun staff person will never ask you for your password. If anyone asks you for your login password on condition of employment, please report that person's nickname to Cybertown Security immediately along with a chat log if you have it.

    It's prudent to change your password frequently. To change your password: at login click on the "Change Your Password" link on the right.

    CONTACT VERSION FOR CT

    Although there are new versions of blaxxun's Contact out, if you're running Win98, the ideal version for use in 3D Cybertown is still version 4.4 (if you're using Internet Explorer as your browser, IE 5.5 is recommended for use with Contact 4.4)

    If you use WinXP and IE 6, you may experience problems with Contact 4.4. For that operating system and browser we recommend Contact version 5.1

    HELP GUIDE

    Useful new tech info: at this time, Netscape 6 won't work with the 2d chat in Cybertown seemingly due to the new way this Netscape version handles Java. A successful action to get 3D to work is by taking the plugins (npbx3d.dll, npbx3dpro.dll and npbxpro.dll) out of Netscape Communicator's plugin folder and putting them in Netscape 6's plugin folder. Make sure Netscape is shut down before doing that though!

    The Cybertown Help Files are comprehensive and contain the information you need to survive and flourish in Cybertown. Put together by Tin-Leon with the seal of approval from Red5, Cybertown's Community Operations Manger, and reviewed by the City Guides, it is here for your use.

    In order to advertise a community event as "citywide", plans/proposals need to be submitted and approved by Cybertown. Please email your event proposals here.

    This does not mean that you have to get authorization to hold block, neighborhood, colony, or club parties to which everyone is invited or for local contests held within your 'hood. This process is for more major event ideas that involve the entire community.

    Cybertown is appreciative of everyone's contributions and enthusiasm and this policy ensures coordination, backup, guidance, and the best publicity possible. Thanks!
