American Independence!!
jdb_educator for CVN While we were in San Francisco, we had the opportunity to meet and hear David McCullough talk about his book 1776 in the Commonwealth club meeting held in San Francisco at the Nikko hotel on June 20th. In his presentation to an audience of 300 or so, he pointed out how unlikely it was that the colonies actually won. In his opinion it may have all come down to chance, fate or God. It was the wind on the east coast during two battles that favored the colonies. IF the wind had been out of the Southwest after the continental army's "absolutely brillant escape" to Trenton, Washington would have been trapped in New Jersy. The war might have ended there with 9,000 American soldiers trapped...by the British navy. mBut of, course, the army escaped. At Yorktown the wind favored the American allied French fleet, trapping the British! Twice the wind saved the colonies. McCullough says, "It was a miracle we ever won...I can't believe we won."

At Yorktown Adm. François Joseph Paul, comte de Grasse's fleet arrived at the Chesapeake capes on August 30, drove off a British fleet under Adm. Thomas Graves (1725?–1802), and established a tight blockade of Cornwallis’s army. Some 16,000 American and French troops and Virginia militia, under Washington’s command, laid siege to Yorktown. Cornwallis made several vain attempts to break through allied lines, but on Oct. 19, 1781, he was obliged to surrender. But...had the wind been different, so too the result.

Now you too may listen to that presentation and the Q&A from the archives of the Commonwealth club. It is set up for RealAudio. Our brief meeting pretty much consisted of my raving about his work and the author was clearly tired from his touring and presentation schedule. As you can hear, McCullough is a dynamic and interesting speaker.

The final scenario vote is in and surveys are pouring in! We told you the scenario would change. It has. And stay tuned, those changes have many more twists and turns yet to come. Here is just a taste of what the storyline of the New Game looks like now:

Virtual Reality and Real Life dimensions are in danger...the worlds are merging into one. How? Why? Too little is known. Authorities say "The matter is under review." At the same time, somewhere in the future, there is a quiet space colony called Cybertown. There, many creatures - alien and humanoid- are developing an InterStellar government. Will all of time be affected? With treachery as a constant, could this be the source of realities merging? Or will the trail lead elsewhere? The only certain things are Wars, secrets. magic, mutations, cabals, and groups of all kinds are everywhere...and that the trail starts in Cybertown.

The game proposal, once complete, will be submitted to the Cybertown City Council and the founder for approval, amendment and suggestion!

June Holiday House Contest Cashiered

The planned 100k CVN Holiday House contest AND Poetry Contest scheduled to take place this June, gave all parties, citizens and players plenty of time to forget about the contest...and succeeded in being forgotten! No one has entered, nor asked about these contests. Although the original story was published daily in both May and June. It shows all of us how important a clear, carefully designed, active publicity campaign is for those desiring to hold a successful event. These TWO June Contests will continue IF we get three entries in the Holiday House AND Poetry contest using June's themes: The house theme is "A Wedding Party." The Poetry topic is "Marriage" and must include at least one reference to Cybertown. All entries must be original and created this year. I guess its time to spill the beans. Yes, i've been practicing my own editing skills. For a little over a year now, I have been maintaining my very own Cybertown related news site. It is titled the Zealot Fusion News, otherwise known as the ZFN. The Zealot Fusion News serves as a news source for a club called Zealot Fusion. Zealot Fusion is an Outlands Army here in Cybertown and it has a long history in Cybertown yet to be discovered by most citizens.

The Zealot Fusion News sole responsibility is to maintain the history of Zealot Fusion. To do this, the staff of the ZFN conduct interviews, explore rumors, and create scenarios involving both Zealot Fusion and the Outlands at large.

Well, what have I learned from my editing opportunity? I learned that it takes a lot of hard work. It can be very difficult getting around to everyone to make sure that all accounts and perspectives are captured and accurate. (much respect to Jdb *wink*). Aside from editing submissions, reviewing content, and designing the site, I feel that its more important to just be creative and have fun with it. It's also important to be an adventurer. Think outside the box, step out of my comfort zone, and dig deep into the mud. Getting involved is what gets the job done.

I'll continue to update the Zealot Fusion News website when required. Many of the Zealot Fusion soldiers think I should go public with the news site and open it to all armies. I dont know if it will be possible. But hey... who knows what the future may bring.

Hi everyone, it is that time of year again where incredible, inspiring, young undergradate men from across the country take on the challenge of spreading disability awareness across the USA. bThis task is accomplished by riding bicycles from San Francisco to Washinton, DC. These young men are truly unique in their life styles to give up their lives and grow and learn along the way. I am on my 6th year of hosting their arrival in my City and I just can never say enough about them. Summer Honors Coming!
It is hard to believe, but those inbox posts have started in the colonies. It is time to update your Cybertown resume and apply yourself to..um... er...applying for those hard earned Cybertown Honors!

Based on years of experience and both activity and accomplishments within the city, eligible citizens may request consideration for higher level titles than they now possess. Take a look at http://www.cybertown.com/exprewards.html

After you have determined if you are eligible, check out your colony website or ask the colony staff for more information, if you need it!

The New honor title to be awarded for the very first time is: SAGE - 42,000 exp. points and at least 7 years valuable contribution with completely clean record.

What are the different honors? For you non-clickers, here they are:

Elder = 1 yr

Templar = 2 yrs

Wizard = 3yrs

Virtmaster = 4 yrs

Knight Virtual = 5 yrs

Sage = 7 years

Grandmaster = 10 years

Vialle, our ever curious publisher, researched for this article and tells us that only six peeps have the years in the City to qualify. We looked into experience and it appears that Hawk, crash, and gortz are the few likely eligible recipients of this first time title, but will they apply? We hope so! More peeps will be eligible next January!

Town Briefing Log

"Another thing I want to brief you on is Silhouette which is now on its own dedicated servers and is in the last beta stages prior to public release."Hawk told the citizens crowded into City Hall. Sillouette(IVN) is moving into the final phases as it rolls out the program! There will be several more stories here in the daily too. CVN Editor jdb_educator was among the first to sign up.

Questions on possible new city entry locations flew as did questions on the new Sillouette technology which has minimum tech requirements. Citizens were reassured that CT itself and its popular 3D will be unaffected.

IVN/CT NEW POLICY

Now-for the first time-any Cybertown citizen can purchase space in the top frame for things like events & special announcements (b'days, anniversaries, etc.) The current rate is $20 per week, $60 per month.

These are special rates for, NON-commercial ads and as always, all banners must be Founder approved before they can be uploaded. Advertisements for businesses are handled differently at different rates.

IVN/Cybertown thanks Holodoc, ND of Star Trek Hood in SciFi, who not only helped in the planning stage is also the creator of the first banner to take advantage of this new option!

This will not affect the cotm (Colony of the Month) banners or any that are already up there.

New Date Not Set
The open City Council meeting set for Thursday 26th May from 9pm to 10:30pm in Cybertown City Hall was postponed when the Mayor's DSL went *poof*. This City Council meeting will be rescheduled so curious Cybertown citizens will be able to observe and see what goes on at these meetings. Watch CVN for the announcement!

Founder Lauds Cybertown City Council

[Founder] Hawk [70545] : "I am very happy to be here at this fun celebration because it gives me an opportunity to say something that I don't often get a chance to say and that definitely doesn't get said often enough.

And that is what a fine job the Council does and what a great group of caring people they truly are.

I could be "just saying this" but I am privy to their meetings, their e-mail discussions, their votes, their trials and tribulations and I watch just how they conduct themselves even when matters become heated and I am truly impressed.

Since the beginning of Cybertown I have seen many, many Councils and many, many Council members and a great many of those people I have come to consider my true friends. And I have over and over been humbled by how staunchly they support Cybertown and what lengths they will go to to ensure its survival and how quickly and willingly they jump when I need help in matters relating to Cybertown and its future.

And I am always amazed at how freely they give of their time.

Are they perfect? No, but who among us is? Are they usually courageous and gracious in the face of uncaring insults from members who just don't understand what is involved in being and what it takes to be a Council member? Absolutely.

Do I trust them implicitly? Yes, I do."

Please join me in giving the Cybertown Council a richly-deserved standing ovation. Thank you.

Starting immediately, for every person who becomes a paying member of CT due to your activities, either as a referrer or sponsor, you will receive a free month of CT time. From the City Guide Office Did you know that every Tuesday at 7 pm CyT time that the City guides are giving tours of the city? If you are new to the city and need a little help getting started and really want to know what the city has to offer ( cause we all know that there is a lot to this wonderful city of ours).

Or, perhaps you are an old hand and just want to join the fun...
The Tour starts off with the basics of the use of the jumpgate and getting 3d set up. Once that is set the tour goes to different places that the "newbie"needs to know how to use and will most likely need coming days while "living" in Cybertown. Places Like the mall and bank. Then we are off to some of the fun and wonderous places like the ePlex, Beach and Suburbs. All are welcome so if you are new or just want a refresher, please join us Tuesdays.

City Applications for Guide will now be open every month from the 1st thru the 7th. If you have always wanted to be one of trhe Cybertown Guides and are dedicated to helping people, join the team! The requirements for guides are:
* 1000 Experience points
* good knowledge of Cybertown
* Good knowledge of Blaxxun
* Knowledge of different browsers
* Have a clean Record ( no bans )
In addition YOU must pass
* Application
* Interview
* 2 Observations

Here is your chance to get started in item building, the Mall has a line up of various classes in the works, and the first one to get you all going will to be given by Cybertown's wonderful creator Gojud.

Tuesday at 2 PM CyT time and again at 7 PM CyT there will be a beginning spazz class and tutorial. This will give you the basics to continue on the journey of creating.

Cytonian Spreads the Word!
petite_artist told us "At the Science center in St. Louis, MO they have "Cyberville", an activity place for kids. At one of their stations, Tuesday May 2, I typed in CT's url in one of their computers and showed our site to someone who works there. He liked it, so I hope to have the chance to return while they still have this and ask if I may d/l blaxxun and show them the 3d there.

Cyberville is located on the second floor of the Science Center's main building. It features state-of-the-art technology and one-of-a-kind, hands-on exhibits that make complex technology user-friendly and easy to understand."

COMMEMORATIVE WEBSITE OPEN
Many stories are now available on a commemorative website, which was launched on the day of the event. This site will continue to provide us all with a constant reminder of how special our community is to our members. Not only was this a wonderful and heartfelt event, but we have, and are now left with, a timeless reminder and great advertisement for our community.
