    Travel: the rest of the Story

    Dateline Phoenix June 30 - We boarded the later flight at 9:01 PM having given up our tickets/seats earlier for a set of FREE tickets good for one year. The possibility of upgrading to FIRST CLASS ws to be our award if we Fifteen minutes after Boarding we heard:
    "This is your Pilot. We have three problems.
    First, we are going to be flying into a storm. There will be turbulence.
    Second, we are experiencing a hydraulic malfunction. It is being worked on now.
    Third, I have been on duty since 7 AM. FAA rules say I must take off by 9:32 PM or be replaced. In that case, a new pilot will arrive within two hours."

    My wife turned to me: "Did I hear him right? Did he tell us that we have an overtired pilot who will be flying into a storm in an airplane that isn't working right?"

    I confirmed that her hearing was accurate. Twenty minutes later, everyone had to get off the plane and wait for the new pilot. The work on the hydraulics continued for about an hour. We arrived in Albuquerque at 2:00 AM and when we got to our hotel after retrieving our car, THEN we crashed.

    Searching for an Internet connection at airports can be a chore. Some, like Phoenix, are free. At San Fancisco T-Mobile wanted $29 plus fo a month or $6 for an hour. They had "day" rate too.

    We were still in Phoenix because we took an offer for our tickets and scored two free coach class tickets for anywhere in the 48 contiguous States, if used in the next year. One of the lessons of Cybertown is being adventurous, trying something new. We are doing so.

    It is coming...July 8th. Something like American Idol with guest judges for commentary. Winners will be chosen by citizens using the vote board. What talents? You may well ask. Just about anything the anyone can think of doing in CT that would be entertaining. Options are not limited to: Story Telling , poetry, comedy skits, monologues, or story telling using the 2D / code. Tell VW by signing up. Hollar at a Colony Deputy in VW if you cannot get the signup email to work! See the Announcement on the Feedback board.

    Following the appointment of editme as the new Places Liaison to City Council he has had to step down from his role as Cybertown Bank Manager.Following his recommendation on a successor, a vote took place in City Council and following Mayor and Founder approval, Cam291979 has been appointed as the new Cybertown Bank Manager. We wish you all the best in your new role and look forward to seeing the Bank develop under your leadership.

We are moving pretty fast on this but it did take time for everyone to have their say and for summaries to be made of what was said. The Citizens Suggestions are not forgotten but got pushed to the backburner because of the mall situation. They are up next.

    Yep, that's what people shout every day! And that's what we're here for - The City Guides.

    Countless newbies come into Cybertown and don't have a clue where they are, how they got here, what all the weird chat lingo going on is about, and what on earth CCs (city cash) are! We're here to help out those people (new and old) where and when they need it - if we don't know the answer, we endeavour to point someone in the right direction.

    They want to know what Cybertown is! We tell them it's a fun place to be. Cybertown is where virtual worlds meet reality. We show them what they can do here, tell them about all the cool Cytonians they can meet, how they can get a virtual job and earn that ever so important virtual cash!

    When they can't understand how to get 3d working? We show them how! It's something we're sure a lot of Cybertown citizens do every day - in fact, we know you do. We always see people helping out newbies, going out of their way to make someone's time in Cybertown mean something more. So if this is you, why aren't you an official City Guide?

    We all know that the key to a successful city is new growth. We all know that the first minutes of a newbies time in Cybertown are important. We want these people to be part of our city, the Cybertown we love so much. We don't want them to stay newbies. We want them to become regulars who return here time and time again because they like the city as much as we do. We want them to see the Cybertown what we see. And that's why it is essential we have more guides on hand to help, more guides available at the times they are needed.

    More focus is being put on the City Guides. We recognise that in an ideal virtual world, every newbie would meet a guide who can help them along their way. But, we need more staff and resources. We need YOU! We need more guides! The City Guide team needs new blood to bring fresh ideas and more people to help others. No matter how good something is already, it can always be better. THAT is the Cybertown way and our way!

    Applications for City Guide are opening very soon - So consider it, and then apply! And if you won't apply, consider being an unofficial guide, and help that newbie today! :)

    Teams of two race around VW's hoods. Special version of multiple lap race tool used. Party Favours:
    IsTLionK is making a "special thingie" (technical description) for everyone that shows up. Auction:
    zoozee is making special unlimited editions for the auction. Items made for our 5th Birthday Party will be auctioned too.
    Name that Tune : It's traditional.

    UNIFIED BAN POLICY

    The purpose of the UBP is to clarify the points made in the Cybertown Constitution so that there is an understandable set of consequences for common in fractions. The intention is not in any to restrict freedoms but rather to make participation in the site enjoyable and safe for all.

    OFFICIAL RULES OF CONDUCT


    The Cybertown Constitution, the site's Legal Notices, and Unified Ban Policy(updated link) will all be enforced swiftly and thoroughly.

    ATTENTION, CYTONIANS!

    No one in Cybertown needs anyone's Cybertown password for anything ever. You will never be required to give out your password for a Cybertown job. Whoever asks for it should be reported to Security immediately!

    It has come to the attention of Cybertown Staff that some people are being told that in order to have a job in Cybertown they must give out their Cybertown login password so that they can be given access rights to do their job. THIS IS NOT TRUE.

    Your login password is yours and yours alone. Please DO NOT give out your password to anyone in Cybertown for any reason. Any legitimate person who wants to hire you for a job in Cybertown does not need your login password for any reason.

    Any legitimate Cybertown or Blaxxun staff person will never ask you for your password. If anyone asks you for your login password on condition of employment, please report that person's nickname to Cybertown Security immediately along with a chat log if you have it.

    It's prudent to change your password frequently. To change your password: at login click on the "Change Your Password" link on the right.

    REMINDER

    Citizens are reminded to keep abreast of all that's happening in your neighborhood and around town. As well as the Daily News and the Feedback Boards, there are your local block, neighborhood and Colony message boards to check on as well! Be sure to check out the Events board too for any sudden events that might be happening! We frequently see same day events we cannot publish.

    CONTACT VERSION FOR CT

    Although there are new versions of Blaxxun's Contact out, if you're running Win98, the ideal version for use in 3D Cybertown is still version 4.4 (if you're using Internet Explorer as your browser, IE 5.5 is recommended for use with Contact 4.4)

    If you use WinXP and IE 6, you may experience problems with Contact 4.4. For that operating system and browser we recommend Contact version 5.1

    HELP GUIDE

    Useful new tech info: at this time, Netscape 6 won't work with the 2D chat in Cybertown seemingly due to the new way this Netscape version handles Java. A successful action to get 3D to work is by taking the plugins (npbx3d.dll, npbx3dpro.dll and npbxpro.dll) out of Netscape Communicator's plugin folder and putting them in Netscape 6's plugin folder. Make sure Netscape is shut down before doing that though!

    The Cybertown Help Files are comprehensive and contain the information you need to survive and flourish in Cybertown. Put together by Tin-Leon with the seal of approval from Red5, Cybertown's Community Operations Manger, and reviewed by the City Guides, it is here for your use.

    Cybertown's Privacy Policy is important to know for your own protection, but it's also important to know if you're planning any events in Cybertown that may require registration of member names. In accordance with new law, only Cybertown nicknames can be requested (no ages, email addresses or "real world" information).

    C-TOWN EVENTS POLICY
     
         In order to advertise a community event as "citywide", plans/proposals need to be submitted and approved by Cybertown. Please email your event proposals here.

    This does not mean that you have to get authorization to hold block, neighborhood, colony, or club parties to which everyone is invited or for local contests held within your 'hood. This process is for more major event ideas that involve the entire community

    Cybertown is appreciative of everyone's contributions and enthusiasm and this policy ensures coordination, backup, guidance, and the best publicity possible. Thanks!
