Cybertown Overview:

Users' and advertisers' needs are often thought to be diametrically opposed. This was quite an issue for us since, while creating and maintaining the Cybertown site, we have never let our dedication to our users waver. Our visitors must come first, since it is only in the process of giving what's wanted to our community-members that we are able to enjoy such a high level of success. At the same time, we understand that without support from our advertisers the Cybertown site would be less able to continue to grow and prosper.

Unlike many web sites, Cybertown does not follow a simple outline form layout. We have designed the site just as a regular city, with a great deal of overlap and interactivity. If you've traveled through any major city, you know that not all of the computer stores are in one central location, and the same is true with our site.

Cybertown currently receives in excess of 12 million accesses a month site-wide and has a large chat population and we double in traffic every year. Cybertown is a family-oriented town - we get 58% male and 42% female visitors. 63% are 21-40. 65% visit every day and another 28% visit 2-3 times a week, 68% play games and 96% tell their friends. We also have an increasing number of game-playing teenagers (more than 20%) moving into town. We appear in magazines, TV shows, books, newspapers and CD-ROMs all over the world every month and we are featured in Web-TV, MSN, AOL and Prodigy. We are starting new special-interest Clubs that will make it even easier to target specific demographics.

In order to generate the highest click-through rate possible the following policies have been instituted:

Banners are always visible below the image at the top, or in the main content sections of pages.
Banners can be up to 468x60 & animated banners can be accepted
Our highly-trafficked chat rooms now accept rotating banners
Co-branding, revenue-sharing joint ventures are favored above all
We particularly welcome a fully integrated approach where we co-sponsor activities in Cybertown

2) BANNERS
Your banner strategically placed around town, especially on pages that relate to your product or service - charged by the number of impressions that you pre-buy (we've recently been getting a 4.5% click-through rate)

Up to 20,000 impressions per month - $30 CPM
21-50,000 impressions per month - $25 CPM
51-100,000 impressions per month - $20 CPM
Home Page - 15% surcharge

3) CYBERTOWN PARTNER
Links with store name and description in its appropriate categories - in Mall and on other related pages. You create a Cybertown-specific page on your site that links back to Cybertown and track orders from Cybertown and either send us a copy of each order or provide a stat page that we can check - 10% of sales generated through Cybertown
4) CYBERTOWN ASSOCIATE
Links with store name and description in its appropriate categories and we specifically promote you around town. We mirror your site and host it in Cybertown and include it as a Cybertown attraction and the order form goes to your cgi script with a copy to us - 15% of sales generated through Cybertown

Banner Specs:

Format: Gif or JPEG Banners only, animated OK
Max Banner Size: Width=468 Height=60 Max File Size=7K
If gif is animated, it should not exceed 8k (looping) or 10k (non-looping). (Animated banners are not always encouraged as they tend to annoy surfers and can create a negative effect for the advertiser).
Multiple creatives are welcomed in order to test out effectiveness.

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT BANNER DESIGN

We want your banner to get the best possible results, and we are very familiar with how our community reacts to advertising banners in our town. Cybertown is a very visual location with a very specific look and feel and any banner design needs to visually integrate with this. The major visual motif of the Home Page is based around a black background with white, cyan or green lettering. Other colors are permissible so long as they integrate with the page that they are designed to be on and the background is black.

We plan on maintaining a superior image on our site, and this includes the quality of advertising banners in the town. If the client provides the banner already created (Cybertown's professional design team is available to design banners), the banner MUST follow the visual guidelines above. Cybertown has the right to refuse any banners that do not integrate with the visual look and feel of the town as outlined above, as these have been found to alienate visitors and residents, consequently resulting in a significant reduction in the number of page views. This particularly applies to the Cybertown Home Page. If a banner is submitted that has a white background, it can be used in some sections of Cybertown but not the Home Page.

When designing your banner content, try to ensure that you give the visitor a reason to click on your banner, otherwise your advertising is wasted. From our experience, the most effective way of doing this (apart from the usual "Free!" offers), is to ask a question that creates some kind of compelling mystery that cannot be answered unless they click on your banner.
