Historic Facts:

The Cyberhood has existed for over a century. What started originally as an artist's community at the end of the 20th century where various artists were able to meet and exchange ideas is now an underground city far away from the more conventional government of Cybertown. Not that life is easy in the Cyberhood! Not only may Cybertown's police prevent you from getting there, but all the rebels and renegades from Cybertown are also there and with them the occasional conflicts of culture and ideas. This makes it an interesting melting-pot and well worth a visit. The Cyberhood is mostly underground with very little contacts with the exterior. The 20th century left a legacy that is not very kind to life-forms: pollution, dangerous suns due to the ozone layer being nearly gone etc. In fact if you look around the Cyberhood you'll find only dry arid land with very little vegetation. There are stories however of a place called Dream City where there are trees and life is much easier but that is another story and another place (if it even exists.)

Who is in the Cyberhood?

Well, you can be in it; this is the place for the rebels, the cyberartists, the cybernarchists, the people who still believe that a virtual community can co-exist and be creative, where there is no need for racism, religious wars or fascism. This is the place where you can have the freedom to create and communicate to others what your dreams or visions are all about.

How can I be in the Cyberhood?

In the Vox Populi section you have four sections where you are welcome to contribute. It's actually over to you to create those sections and as new material of interest appears, we will add more sections.

If you'd like to submit your artwork, you can e-mail us here and tell us something about yourself and what you do and what the address of your home page is so that we can go check out your work. VERY IMPORTANT: Make sure you put the words Cybertown Showcase somewhere in your message. If you don't have a home page yet, e-mail us and let us know and we'll tell you what to do.

What are the qualifications for the Cyberhood?

We're looking for artists who are on the edge of the technology, artists whose art form would create enough impact with aesthetics or content that no one would think of not putting them in the Cyberhood. Not everyone makes it in the Cyberhood and we can't promise you'll be in it; if you submit something it's always a surprise, you may appear the same day, next week, or next month or never. The Cyberhood is a bit anarchic, so don't take it personally if you don't make it, instead try later as you get new material as we may revolve material to keep it fresh. If you want your material to be copyrighted, put a notice in your artwork.

We want the Cyberhood to be your place - we want you to create it! Tell your friends and together let's create a fascinating place. There are very few rules in the Cyberhood, just to make the place livable among us and make the various cultures existing in the Cyberhood co-exist peacefully. There is a Constitution to which you can contribute by clicking here. The first basics of the constitution exist already and are: freedom from racism, freedom from religious intolerance and freedom from sexual exploitation (meaning that you won't find pornography in the Cyberhood). Also freedom from degrading your fellows. The rest is up to you!
